Heavy Harrow
Self-Levelling Harrow Sections
BERGEN harrows are the original and still the most consistent harrows on the market today. They are designed to work with the weight of the section only. When springs or torsion bars are mounted onto the sections, you will have uneven pressure on individual sections in uneven terrain. Uneven pressure means inconsistent soil and straw disturbance.
Each BERGEN 6' section floats freely, allowing the farmer the option of setting the center section tynes a little more aggressively to counter tractor wheel compaction, without affecting the "set level" of all sections. In comparison, harrows with torsion bars must raise or lower their entire frame if they want their sections to run level. Every time the tyne angle is changed on a torsion bar system, the operator is forced to either adjust the height of the bar or have sections not running level!
Tyne Spacing
BERGEN harrow tynes do not overlap one another. Each 6' section has 30 teeth and all are equally spaced at 2.4" (centre to centre). BERGEN delivers consistency!
Tyne Vibration
The business of any harrow system is the tynes that are doing the work. For those tynes to be able to perform proper straw management, they require a specific vibration frequency to be of maximum affect. BERGEN spent several years testing various tynes to determine how tyne "wire thickness", "length", and "angle of attack" affected the result on heavy straw residue. Through this exhaustive research process, it was determined that the most effective tyne was a 1/2" X 16" tyne with a straight leg design. Years more research and testing proved that the leg length could be stretch out to 20" before a drastic performance loss was incurred. Only 1/2" wire has the vibration frequency required to "shatter" straw. A thicker wire changes the vibration frequency and does not break down and shatter that straw as well as the 1/2" wire. BERGEN continues to use their 1/2" X 20" tyne design which has proven since it's inception to be the most effective tyne on the market for stubble residue management.
A properly vibrating 1/2" tyne will continually break down and evenly distribute straw residue, while a longer heavier tyne will hold the straw, and cause the section to fill completely. That section full of straw requires a larger tractor to haul that "unbroken" straw up and down your field, wasting valuable fuel and not delivering the "straw management" in the process! Also, if the harrow section is full of straw, only the bottom few inches of the tyne do any work - obviously this is not effective straw management! BERGEN's 1/2" tynes are properly spaced and vibrate effectively to shatter and break down the straw that would otherwise be held in the section.
Simple and trouble free!
BERGEN harrows are made tough, therefore capable of handling very demanding conditions. Their "Self-Levelling" system delivers the most consistent "tyne to ground" contact of any harrow available. Adjustments are easy, precise, and final. Once set, you have the confident assurance that the harrow will be performing the same at the end of the job as when you began.
