Heavy Harrow
BERGEN Industries is the original manufacturer of heavy harrows. BERGEN was the originator from "concept" through "creation" to "masterpiece". Long before others even considered a heavy harrow, BERGEN set out to change the way farmers thought about and used harrows. Change came slowly in the early 1980's as farmers had trouble visualizing the usefulness of this "new heavy harrow". Those that did were astounded by the performance. A 1/2" x 16" tyne did things they never thought possible! BERGEN continued to make improvements and in 1991 the "Self-Levelling" BERGEN heavy harrow was introduced. It wasn't only farmers who turned their attention towards this new phenomenon. It didn't take long for other manufacturing companies to stand up and take notice! One competitor so badly wanted to see our new tynes that he ordered 2 tynes from us to build a "rotary tiller for his tree rows". (He promised that his company would never build a harrow.) He later returned the tynes, unused and unpaid for and soon had his own "yellow & black" harrow! By 1995, BERGEN had twelve competitors building heavy harrows. Most came into the market with features like, longer tynes, bent tynes, or even curved tynes, which did not work as well as BERGEN's tried & tested-over-time design. Soon these other companies were building heavier, wider diameter, tynes because their originals were still not working as well as BERGEN's. Some companies even refused to go into farmers' fields for a demo if BERGEN was in the field on the same day!
Today, BERGEN Industries continues to produce the most consistent harrow on the market. BERGEN's philosophy remains the same today as when we started building the original heavy harrow. At BERGEN, our goal is to originate (not imitate) and determine through valid "in field" testing, what is required to be part of the final design that will be in the best interest of the farmer using it. It is on that basis that we allow equipment to go out from our manufacturing plant with a BERGEN logo on it. If its BERGEN built, it's simply, better built!
